Tropical Depression 10 was downgraded to a tropical wave by the NHC, but currently it is far more dangerous than while it was a TD! A huge burst of convection has developed over the north central Caribbean Sea in association with this circulation and is currently producing flooding rains over Hispaniola. These flooding rains are moving toward Jamaica and eastern Cuba over the next 24 hours or so. Expect local flooding and the potential for mudslides mainly over more mountainous areas or higher elevations of those islands. The convective burst is (at least temporarily) pushing the SW shear over the circulation off to the west making the environment more favorable for development. The "wave" has been moving NW at about 20 mph the past 24 hours, but we expect it to slow and take on a more WNW track the next 12 to 24 hours as it heads past Jamaica and across Cuba. Currently it appears the SW Bahamas the Florida Keys and south Florida should be monitoring this feature closely the next 24 to 48 hours. It is very likely going to intensify and make a turn in the general direction of the Florida Keys the next 48 to 72 hours. Tropical moisture in the western Gulf of Mexico is merging with a cool front to produce moderate to heavy rain from south Texas to east Louisiana. This rain will be spreading east and very likely will keep this tropical moisture tap for at least another day. The remainder of the Atlantic is quiet. ...
