Variety - Desperate for the cash to buy a fix after three months of abstinence while on parole, Noelle (Emily Hampshire) is in the midst of arranging a threesome by phone when she's abruptly visited by her now-clean brother, Chris ("Twist" director Jacob Tierney). Their sexually charged hour-and-a-half showdown is meant as an Albee-ish bout of recriminations and high-stakes gamesmanship, but it comes across as achingly naive, painfully theatrical and extremely tedious. Though lauded in the past for his imaginative style, "Trudeau" miniseries director Jerry Ciccoritti's use of split-screen, overlapping shots from different angles (pic was shot in eight 90-minute continuous takes), as well as random run-down neighborhood tableaux -- a la "Rosanne" bumpers -- can't energize so-what material and miscalculated perfs. Hampshire, so promising in Gary Burns' "The Problem With Fear," here employs shrill petulance to diminishing returns. Tech credits are functional, yet undistinguished.
