so are any of you guys taking part of the youtube blackout?
for those of you who don’t know, it’s a planned boycott of youtube for i think 2 days. anyways, it’s to protest the censoring of profanity on youtube

I don’t think it will work... If they want to do something, they have the capital to survive anything anyone can throw at them.
Face it, the Ad Network does not make more money in two days than all the lawsuits.
It would be much better to bring it to the attention of the Supreme Court.

yea i don’t really think it’ll work either. i mean yea google might notice a little bit of lost traffic to their site for a few days, but nothing that would make any companies pull out their advertisements. it’s sad that youtube has become a medium for money, but i guess it’s to be expected with a site with that much traffic
best case scenario: they add a parental content feature with an off switch

Not me, because I’m not a moron. First of all, it isn’t censorship if the content is still there, but that’s hardly the point. The point is, privately owned websites are not a democracy, and the owner, in this case Google, can do whatever the fuck they want with it. This is going to do the same thing the Facebook Blackout did. Nothing. Now get the fuck out.

A) YouTube doesn’t generate all that much in the way of Google.
B) Millions of other sites (Myspace, etc) have YouTube videos embedded, which display ads -- you’d have to boycott half the internet -- including Google.
C) This won’t do shit.
D) The supreme court can’t do shit, If I make a site and say that nobody with yellow teeth can join, guess what, it’s my right -- I’ll let who I want in my house.
E) is for E-cookie, it’s good enough for me.

Boycotting youtube for any number of days would not affect them nor change my viewing habits as I seldom frequent that site.
However, I can sympathize with their position on profanity as ill use of English is repulsive, abhorrent and usually unwarranted. There are the odd occasions when violent language has its place and should be spoken with confidence. One example is, “Fuck you Alle,” which, if spoken in unison by all the people who have it said once or more, would have the audio strength to demolish a small building.
Youtube does have some clearly defined guidelines when it comes to pornography. I too believe there is an over abundance of pornography on the internet and I have personally taken it upon myself to download as much of it as possible.
