This may help some people further understand eachothers viewpoints.

Im sure theres a few of us out there that may have no denomination, or theres no label for your viewpoint. In that case, just note where your beliefs or lack of beliefs has been influanced from.

I was raised roman catholic, became an atheist, got into ’plant’ shamanism (useing ’entheogens’/hallucinogens to commune in the spiritual realm), started studying Gurdjeifs ’work’ (a branch of sufiism), played around with Crowleys ’magick’ as well as some of Carlos Castinedias stuff, reaquired a belief in a monotheistic god, dropped it within 2 months, and settled into agnostisism.

From there, I started doing alot of meditation and have been studying the mystical aspects of the major religons (save kabahla, still havent gotten around to looking into it yet)- particularly advaita vedanta and zen budhism, but also gnostisim as well as a bunch of neoadvaita (americanized vedanta).

I call myself an agnostic, but I have strong leanings toward atheism........at the current moment (my beliefs, or lack of belief seems to go back and forth)

i’m a Christian. i belive Jesus came to die for me. I was raised as a Christian but turned from it when i was about 10. I’ve done studying and decided it actually was the path for me, and I’m glad I did.

I am in no way perfect and don’t claim that I am. I am not your "textbook Christian" meaning that I disagree with the way the church shows itself to the masses. I see the way people at my church look at non-believers and want to change it. im just me, i guess.

I’m an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). From the time I was about six until I was twelve, weird as it may sound, I was an atheist, simply because I was incredulous about God and if he exists why isn’t it more obvious, why aren’t there signs and explosions, and the concept of God didn’t make much sense to me. All this was unknown to my family, my peers, my church. Then we had to go through Confirmation. And I began some serious thinking. About life in general, and mankind, etc. And that convinced me. It took me a long time before I was very confident about my faith, but here I am today, at seventeen, an elder.

I believe that through Jesus’ sacrifice we are pardoned for our sins. I don’t agree with all the opinions of the PCUSA, but the PCA is too conservative, i.e. they dont allow women to be elders or reverends. So here I am.

I don’t believe everyone who isn’t Christian goes to hell. I don’t know exactly who does, but I do know that out of the eight billion people on this earth, one billion are Christian. And they don’t even agree within themselves about who’s going to heaven. And I don’t think God would condemn that many people to hell. It makes no logical sense. I think God is the only person who can truly make a judgment call about someone’s character, and perhaps that is how he decides who gets sent to hell and who doesn’t. At this moment, that is what I believe. That may change in a few days, months, or years. I am always open to new opinions.

Up until I was almost 15 years old, I had been raised as an Adventist (Christian) but about a year ago my parents really got into studying the Bible, my dad even learned Greek so he could read the non-translated version. We spent several months as a family going over what the Bible says and what we believe and eventually stopped going to the Adventist church because of some of the beliefs in Adventist theology. We now attend a Nazarene church, so I’d say I’ve been raised Christian all my life.

I was raised as Cristian/Catholic (can’t remember which) but when my Grandma died i stopped going to church because she was the one who took me. Lately, I’ve been looking into Paganism and Wicca.

Kinda funny that now that I look back on Adventism, it has some cultic qualities similiar to Mormans and JW’s, but its not as much so as the other two. Mainly the belief that they are the one true denomination and the Ellen White stuff.

Well, I was born a Catholic, but when i was old enough to make my own decisions I decided NOT to follow any "religion" per se. I found what I guess you’d say is "my own path" through the spirituality part of life, it’s been and is very confusing to figure that one religion says THIS and another says THAT, but I TRY to live my life in such a way as to not create a negative impact on others, it’s of course impossible to do that, but if you try, you’ll get some of it done.
It’s somewhat disconcerting to see people living lives full of hate for whatever another person stands for or is all about.
I really prefer to take each individual person on their face value and actions and make a decision as to whether they are a good or reasonably good person. I, of course, haven’t found the perfect person yet and some of our weaknesses/faults can be minor enough to overlook, but I have to draw the line at HATE. It really sucks to meet someone and realize right off that they will never be a friend of yours because of the HATE they carry for something or someone(s).
I’ve made many diverse friends and acquaintances as a result of not judging them to harshly or too quickly. I don’t really care if they’re a particular race, religion, or whatever they might be, it’s all about the person, are they hateful, or tolerant. I try to be tolerant, though it’s not an easy task.
It’s very hard to know the correct path, you must trust yourself to make the right decision.

I was raised in the Roman Catholic church. Since I’m pretty old, I’ve gone through a number of religious belief permutations. I have been a chaos magician for the last ten years or so. Chaos magicians practice "random belief" which means you deliberately change your outlook on spirituality every so often. Sometimes I believe in external deities and sometimes I don’t.

I am a Lutheran....yea, a Southern Lutheren is a rare specimen... I am in the band at my church, do youth group there, and I used to be on a Christian skate team. One thing I cannot stand is Christians that look down on other Christians because they’re of another denomination.... like here in my town, it is about 90% Southern Baptist, and they look down on the Catholics, bad. One of my friends is not allowed to see her boyfriend anymore because he’s Baptist and she’s Catholic, so his parents got all mad about it. It just makes me sick, the way I see it, intolerance is a mark of ignorance.

It’s fun to poke fun at each other’s denominations between friends but discriminating because of it is uncalled for. Your town must be small. I had a Hindu boyfriend and no one had a problem with it that I know of.

Wouldn’t the greek version be a translated one?

Posted: Sep 18, 2005 1:49 a.m. - Subject:

The books of the old testament were all in Hebrew, and derived from judaic holy books. The so called new testament however is derived from multiple sources-- the problem with this has always been determining exactly what the "original" source was. Like a myth or fairy tale, a lot of the stories in the new testament were told over and over again, and written down by numerous people, before an official version was agreed on. Many of the books included in the new testament were first written down in an organized way in "coptic" which is a bastard type of language, a mixture of greek, egyptian, and aramaic. Most biblical scholars agree that aramaic was the spoken language of the day in new testament times-- just about everybody spoke it, but it was not written in much. That’s how english started, by the way-- it was spoken for hundreds of years before people started writing in it.

I have a question, I mean no disrespect. How can you believe in satan but not believe in God? I’m a non-denominational Bible believing Christian who believes every single Word of God and that Jesus truly IS the Christ!

"How can you believe in Satan but not God"--? Because you think they are the same thing.

Before you just jump on this statement and try to tear it to pieces, please read the "book of Job". This describes in very clear terms that God and "the devil" had a bet going, in which an innocent and God-fearing man (Job) was merely a pawn. The devil bet God that they could make Job so miserable that he would curse God’s name, in spite of his beliefs and fears. (It’s one of my very favorite books in that it talks about animals, even spiders: "She taketh hold with her hands, and is in the king’s house...")

I’m not a satanist, but I don’t take the bible literally either. In fact I don’t worship anything in particular-- please read my own entry under this topic about my beliefs.

This tale of Job is obviously a metaphor meant to teach us-- what?
